Hi...I have a quick question and was wondering if any of you that have a little more experience than I might be able to give me a little bit of advice. Im looking into buying two 65 gallon tanks, they are on an iron stand and sit one on top of the other. My concern is that im putting them on the main floor of my house, and I have a basement. Will the floor support the weight? I wouldnt be as worried if it were just one tank and the weight was a little more dispersed. Its essentially 130 gallons of water in a 48 x 1.5 foot or something area. What do you all thing? The house is older, maybe made in the 40/50s...somewhere around there. Thanks in advance.

I woul say yes because I have had larger tanks than that on either side of a wall and they were alright. If you are concerned my best question to you is
1. Is it a load bearing wall if so you can park a small car there
2 . If not and you are concerned throw up some floor supports to take the extra load and you will be fine
Hope this helps

The wall im planning to put them on is an outside wall, it borders the house I guess you could say. So is that load bearing?

Would reccomend having a contractor or some pro check it out, and always play it safe because theres nothin worse than having your floors cave in ruining your basement and floor

If you put the tank so it sit on a few floor joist along the outside wall you will be fine. I know this because I build houses for a living and as long as you make sure you have the stand and tank running opposite of the floor joist you will be 100% fine with no problems. If you need me to explain more PM me and I will show you what I mean

That set up will weigh near 1300 lbs, you better be able to span at least 3-4 floor joists. If not I would look to reinforce the floor.

I had my 85 g tank sag my floor house was built In 2000 my brother came over and did something to fix it (builds houses for the last 18 years. My tank actually busted one of the boards under the carpet. I'd play it safe before you do anything

What you could do is build a header under where your tank is gonna go and use jacks to tighten up the floor joist. I have building house for 16yrs and I have a 125 gallon spread across 6 with no jacks under neath it and it is fine because it is a load bearing wall

Suprised that no one asked about the iron stand. Is the stand full frame or 4 legs because a stand with just legs over time can be a danger to the floor. The weight on the legs over time will damage the floor and could cause a accident. This happened years ago at my dads house and the floor boards had 4 good indents in them and the tank was only there for a year. Also if your afraid then get a professional to look over your floor and to do modifications. Because if something does happen you want to make sure insurance will cover it.
