Can my house hold the weight?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Suprised that no one asked about the iron stand. Is the stand full frame or 4 legs because a stand with just legs over time can be a danger to the floor. The weight on the legs over time will damage the floor and could cause a accident. This happened years ago at my dads house and the floor boards had 4 good indents in them and the tank was only there for a year. Also if your afraid then get a professional to look over your floor and to do modifications. Because if something does happen you want to make sure insurance will cover it.

Hello; This is an potentially serious issue. I use iron stands and place some sort of pad under the legs. I currently have some empty cat food cans under the legs of such a stand. I also have steel washers inside the cans to spread the load and as aids to help level the stand. I started doing this sort of thing after having a slow leak some years ago. I found that such leaks very often run down the legs of an iron stand and a such a can will catch the water. A bit of cloth placed in the can and suspended in the air will sometimes allow the water to wick up and evaporate before it can get to the floor. This has given some extra time before having to break down a tank to fix a leak. It also gives time to search out a leak as many times such leaks are not from a faulty tank but from some other source.

After carpet, hardwood floors are the next biggest problems from damage from stands and leaks.

You should be fine. I have had many tanks over 300 on 2nd level

You may have been okay but a bunch of others have had problems with far smaller tanks. Honestly I think if you actually want to attempt it you should consult an expert then you don't have to worry everytime you hear a noise

Well thanks for all your input. I got the tanks and set them up. The couple I got them from had them on a first level floor with a basement and a 75 gallon sitting right next to them. I asked them what they though and said they have never had an issue, they thought it would be fine. I checked the floor joists and they are running acrossed the tanks, not parallel I guess you could say. The tanks are 48 inches so should be running acrossed a few, hopefully more than 3. The stand is iron with only 4 legs. There are circle pieces in the bottoms though, not sure why. Every523124_424025284311368_370336468_n.jpgthing is fine now, hopefully I have no issues.

If the circle pieces on the bottom are for padding I would leave them, i also had to cup the bottom of my iron stand due to issues, I won't ever use one again. I hope it all works out for you, its looking good now.
