i think your better off getting one oscar and two Jack Dempseys.. just simply because oscars usually fight with each other as they get older unless they have very large space... and also they need some growing room.... until you can get bigger...
Yes Dempseys and Oscars make good tankmates... but 2 adults of each is a lot more than a 75 is suitable for... Having a 75 gal that requires a TON of maintenance (read as a TON of work), still looks dirty and fish are all unhappy/beat up, just isn't very much fun. But if you try one Oscar and one Dempsey, and don't slack off on your weekly cleaning/water changes, then you'll have a good chance at enjoying the hobby.
Buy yourself a 180. You going to need it eventually. Keeping oscars and dempsey togethere works 60% of the time everytime. Each fish is different. Trial and error. Big tank, hidding places, plenty of food, What is the size difference between the fish? Have you kept the fish in solo tanks or community?
I guess I should read everything before I reply. A 75 gallon would be fine for an Oscar by it's self or a few dempsey's. Having all four full grown in a 75 will not work. The Oscars are going to very quickly outgrow the Dempsey's and could become aggressive and ultimately end in death. When you buy fish you must plan on having enough space for when they are full grown. I know it may seem empty now but in a few years it will be jammed packed.
a 75 gal would do for a grow out tank. and IME...55gal worked for my 3 "O" and 2 JD...but that lasted a few month(6) then i put um' in a 125...and it worked.
