Can Plexy tank tall hold water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They sell table saw ,circular saw blades made for cutting acrylic, a squirt bottle with water will also help keep it cool. Use a straight edge clamped to the tank to get a nice straight cut, a router is a good idea to. Take your time with the cut it needs to be perfect.

thank u guys. When I get a chance I will cut it.

With a straight edge clamped into place, I'd probably run two or three passes with the saw. Set saw blade depth at about 1/8" on 1st pass, then spray some water in the groove. Try to cut on level ground so water stays in groove for remaining passes.

Have u considered putting the tank on its back wall creating the dims 48"x48"x15" tall. U'd only have to buy material for one small 15"x48" section. Cut out a hole in the old front for the top and ur good to go. All depends what ur keeping i guess, would make a nice little ray/cat tank on its back :)

THIS!!!!

Maybe it's too late, but don't fill this up with water and expect it to hold.
Maybe it will be good during your initial yard test.
Problem is, over time, the stresses on under built plexi/acrylic tanks add up.
I learned this the hard way. I had a 30" tall acrylic tank I bought used. Only had 1/2" acrylic.
Seller had it set up for 2-3 years. I had it for about 2 years, then I heard a loud pop and the acrylic cracked.

As you can imagine, very stressful to set up temp housing for all the fish and get a new tank special ordered, and wait for it.
The guy I bought the new tank from said he he uses 3/4" cell cast arcylic at 30" high.

So yea, there's stories of people that underbuild the tanks and say everything is fine, it's just bowing a lot.. They may or may not have a timebomb though.

Now I was fortunate, when my tank cracked, it started at the top, and I caught it .. so no flood.. So I am thankful I didn't have a disaster.
There's just no way I would trust that box you have to hold water.. Think of all the damage it will do to your house if it cracks (and it probably will eventually)
