Best bet is a circular saw. It is going to be tough to do while keeping it neat however. Most people use a table saw or router when cutting it to start. You have to be quick cutting it or the acrylic will overheat and start to melt.
Have u considered putting the tank on its back wall creating the dims 48"x48"x15" tall. U'd only have to buy material for one small 15"x48" section. Cut out a hole in the old front for the top and ur good to go. All depends what ur keeping i guess, would make a nice little ray/cat tank on its back![]()
