I have used a hybrid Texas convict female to try cross with a male rainbow. They have went through the spawning motions lots but nothing ever came off it. The rainbow loses interest and the female hybrid doesn't appear to lay eggs even though on one occasion her tube was present. Almost phantom like guarding the cave with nothing in it. Project stopped for now, the female is back in my female tank and is courting a female rainbow now ?
