can rays be kept with discus?

I keep rays and discus together. My tank is at 80 and I see no problems.

what type & size are your rays? what size were your discus when u put them in?

I keep my ray tank at 85 an no problems, just make sure your discus are big enough not to be eaten, start with a small ray. IMO you would be fine with a motoro pup for quite a long time, however they do get LARGE my female is 22" without tail

I would only want to start with baby pup rays in either case. how much do motoro ray pups go for?

I keep hystrix rays with discus with no problem. Tank temp is around 84. I've also kept motoros with discus in the past. One big happy family.

also, since I have been keeping a bare bottom tank, must I have sand for ray substrate? what type? how much to add? would like to keep bare bottom.

The discus was I guess about the same size as the rays when I started with one discus being exceptionally large. Rays at 2-4in and discus the same. Now the discus are still about the same diameter as the rays if you count the tails at about 5-8in. Hystrix pups vary in price depending on if you can get ahold of some. There is a vendor on MFK selling some for $250...can't remember which vendor though. I bought mine for slightly higher than that.

Keep your bare bottom then. There are tons of ray keepers with bare bottom tanks

We are considering discus for our show tank with our batman ray. We have a great discus breeder across the street from us so we are going to hit him up for some beauties to put in with Batgirl. She is very small (just born 1/12/10) only about 3 1/2 inches across. Going to discus about her size and make an awesome show tank for our living room.

I too have had no problems with rays and discus I might go back to this but dont k now yet just something for the top of the tank to look at lol but as for your answer pretty much what everyone else has wrote
