Can somebody tell me about this filter?

nope.
ive seen those suck almost full size guppies to the side.

That's not a sponge filter, it's an in tank version of a HOB. The 10i goes 85 gallons per hour and is rated for a 10 gallon tank. Too slow for me, so I have it on my 5.

That's nothing like a sponge filter.

It's really not that hard to build your own sponge filter if you can't buy one. In fact there's a ton of ways to build your own filter so there's nothing to suck fry in. For that matter you can stick a sponge on the intake of a power filter.

where in cali r you

In the bay area, around San Mateo/Burlingame. If anybody could tell me where I could get a decent sponge filter (WITHOUT a powerhead), I would appreciate it.

But...This works for me...I live in a town where for some reason not one store has sponge filters....I also have not had the chance to order them online....So I just buy a small fish net (the green ones that are like 2 bucks at pet giants) Cut the netting off of the handle, stick it over the intake. Use a rubberband to hold it in place. It kept 100% of the guppy fry out of an hob that is as low as they swim...They just avoided it. The tank was moderately planted and the success was great...Good luck with whatever you do....
