Can someone answers my question about algae

I only suggested a pleco because the ones i have had do well with brown algae. Theyre nit for everyone but I think calling adding one a dumb idea is a bit harsh and premature. If his tank is overstocked yes its a bad idea. I didnt see the OP say his tank was overstocked so I didnt assume it was.

Plecos actually are poor algae eaters and actually don't prefer to eat it. They eat it as a last effort cause they are starving. Plecos NEED food, it is a common misconceptions that plecos only eat algae and they clean tanks. Clean your own tank and feed less.

Depends on the pleco...some rather eat shrimp. Others are happy to eat algae, and normally algae is not enough. Get a bristlenose and supplement the diet.

True, some algae is part of the diet but they still need other foods. IMO if you keep a pleco keep it cause you like them not cause you expect it to clean your tank. if I had to recommend a good algae eater for brown algae that would be an Otto.

Is the tank in alot of sun light? I experienced this problem also when I moved my tank from a corner with barely any sun light to a spot in the middle of my living room were it gets hit by the light when I have my front door open.
