recently 'rescued' this 9inch beauty and an accompanying female from a bit of an irresponsible owner.. he claims they are p.motaguense... when i collected them, i couldnt be sure as they were very stressed... but now i've had them a week and they've coloured-up, i think they may be p.loisellei.... what do you guys think:confused:

cheers mate, the fish in that link is a red tiger mota, if mine is a mota and not loisellei then its a yellow morph... some pics of yellow motas i look at and i think 'defo a mota', then i look at other pics of motas and think 'defo not'!!!.... anyone know of a nailed on method to distinguish the two?...

thing is with the internet, fish are easily mislabelled or mis-identified... if you google a latin name, and someone has tagged a picture wrongly it can make things rather confusing... i dont really care what the fish is, as its a belter... just would like to know what it is... would hate to sell-on any fry they produce as one fish, when they are actually another!

can you put up a pic of the female? females are easier to tell apart as loiselli will have squiggly patterns above the lateral line, from my inexperienced eye though it looks mota (but really take that with a grain of salt as im not experienced with these guys)

looks like rainbow cichlid to me, grows to about 6 inch
