Can someone help me identify my peacock cichlid??

I believe female cichlids can have pointed anal fins, but the males have MORE of a pointed anal fin than the females.
oh, well i feel dumb. well at least it will be easier to find a mate. are u sure she is an aulonocara maisoni? i dont wanna be making any hybrids
Like the others have said, it can be really hard when identifying female peacocks... To me the body, mouth, fins, and everything else all look like that of an Aulonocara Maisoni. I haven't seen any others with the same body and mouth, so in my mind, its no doubt an Aulonocara Maisoni.

^ Female above the male...males (as you can see) have more color than the females...same goes for most african cichlids (males=more colorful than females)
hm yeah i see what you mean, i've found this pic on this link that also looks a lot like mine but is a species other than Maisoni.

It looks kinda like yours, I still think the maisoni's mouth is more like yours though
yeah but the mouth is a lil distorted because of the growth. and btw do u think salt baths would help clear it up?
looking closer at the dorsal fin i can see orange and indigo on the tips of the spikes, is that any indication to what species it could be? cuz looking at other ruby red female on the internet they all seem to also have that too. and also a Iwanda female pic had the same, so is that normal of all aulonocara females or could that help narrow it down?

it orange and indigo can be seen in the second pic i posted (first one in that group of picture)
I'm going to say female have one just like here holding and yes also think she is a miasoni when I got mine from the Lfs that's what her and three other females looked like. Ill upload pics in a different thread as soon as I get a better camera and some time off work
