Those pics are not of the same fish. The first are mudskippers, the second's a dragonfish (dragon goby, purple/violet goby).

i was thinking that, but figured maybe they were a bunch of stressed out violets just arrived at a LFS or something.

first looks a little like anableps anableps, to elongated to be mudskipper, but doesn't look dragon goby like second
