+1 not green enough for a Retropinnis

There are many diffrent factors that can go into pulling the green pigments out plus I think op only just got them could still be stressed.

100% retropinnis

Sent from my LT15a using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

That is 100% retropinnis. i have a retropinnis that looks exactly like that one. you can tell its a retropinnis by the number of dorsal fins, the pattern on it's body and the headshape. The green in yours doesn't show because of the substrate and how young the retropinnis is. the zaire green will show as it grows older.

heres a pic of my retropinnis. you can see how the pattern looks exactly alike and the headshape is the same

i only added these pics to help you see the clear difference between both species

Thanks Matt for you explanation. I love being proven wrong, instead of being told I'm wrong, that way i learn something in the process
The tail threw me off to Dr. B

Thanks everyone. And yes i did just get the bichir today. Its still a little stressed and just a wee little fellow. Its in a quarantine tank at the moment until i either set up my 55g for it and or feel its safe enough to go in with their bigger bichirs

Looks like young Palmas Polli to me.

100% retropinnis, just not enough green. I'm guessing CB retro.

hey, can we can some updated pics of the poly in question?
it looks like a palmas polli to me but many were thinking it was a retro...

if you look at the head shape. elongated body. the eye of the fish, and the dorsal fins are rounded, you can tell it's 100% retropinnis. Also, for the tail, polli has a different shaped tail as well.

also for the dorsal fins, palmas polli has a very sharp edge whereas in the picture. the dorsal fins are rounded.

hope that helps XRAYZ :)

also if you look closely, you can see a small ring of dots surrounding the eye socket that ONLY retropinnis has.

I was told by TGM that no other bichir has this feature :)

just a correction on the ring patterns on the eye. Some lapreadeis and ornates do have rings surrounding the eye but not all. Also some retropinnis caught in Gabon don't have this too.
