Can someone ID this mackerel?

Hey guys, went fishing with a pal and we caught this thing. Anyone know what it is?

He had really beautiful colors, kinda wish I had a saltwater tank to keep him. Oh well, he tasted good.

Bait = pacific mackerel

Yeah, most other people used them as bait. But the only fish around Santa Monica besides mackerels are tilapia and kelpfish.

Mackerel - and yes - tasty! Especially fried up in butter whole (gutted) hours after being caught.

You catch tilapia in full saltwater there?

Some tilapia species are fully capable to living in saltwater and even reproduce in saltwater. Perhaps that's why they are only fish that survived in Salton Sea.

but not in the california coast i dont recall ever hiring about tilapia though.
