I think both fish are Red Texas FH's. Look on the Arizona Aquatic Gardens web site
and review the Red Texas FH's. Dead ringers & very expensive.

A hybrid of what though?
No one can tell you with accuracy, it will just be a guessing game. To me it looks like a carpintis with some amphilophus in the mix. I could be completely wrong though. Even the most advanced cichlid experts in the hobby could only give an educated guess.
Without examination of the fishes dna its a hybrid of unknown origin.

I still think that the best guess is a 1st generation red tex. lol

Unfortunately this is what happens when people breed cichlids hither wither without considering the long term consequences. There are probably now millions of red texas hybrids in the hobby, many that look identical to their carpintis father, and others close enough to still fool some folks.

Thank you! Iam fully aware that no one could give a accurate answer. I was just seeing if someone had a better idea what the cichlid was than the guy down at the LFS
