ya, i know, as soon as u join a forum and ask questions, people assume ur a noob (im no where near one)

people have told me to start with beginner fish before i get advanced ones, (and ive past that road yrs ago) ive had my begginers and intermediates, im ready for my expert fish

as long as i know how to take care of one, i can, and thats the truth

ive been working on finding realy cool animals (creepy crawlies) that live for over 20yrs , and a gar is definitly next on that list

i know theyre nothing alike, but if i can take care of what are considered expert turtles , than i can take care of expert fish

i know u guys dont want to believe me cuz im new to the forum, but i can

well first..... do you know what species you want. there are 7 species and 2 genus. Lepisosteus and Atractosteus.
Lepisosteus: longnose, shortnose, florida, spotted
Atractosteus: alligator(only if you have the room to house a fish that grows about 2" a month and reaches near 5'.) tropical and cuban.

snapping turtles are not "expert turtles"...actually, no turtles are experts, some are more challenging to take care of than others. reGARdless, expertise with turtles is incomparable to expertise with gars, period.--

in between Lepisosteus and Atractosteus

I'm not telling you to start with a "begginers" fish.. I'm telling you to not start with the small juveniles of said fish... And for the record if you where ready for them you would at least know what they look like and know something of their natural history.

they are hybrid and rare. so chances of getting one are slim. and if anyone did happen to get/have one (besides richard and soloman) then thats awesome cuz gar hybrids are amazing fish.

Hey. My two needlenose gars had babies while i was at school, and my 55 gallon tank was in my apartment. what i ended up doing was buying a 15 gallon tank because my larger gars will eat the fry. there are many fish in a gar fry, probably around 50. i had three artificial plants in my tank and the eggs appear to be round sacks that one of my gars laid throughout one entire plant. it was very easy to see the eggs, and was also very easy to see the unhatched fish in the eggs. i found a very small screen which i used as a net and was able to put the fry into the smaller tank. after i did this, i found a store that sold brine shrimp fry and put these in the tank with the needlenose fry. between eating eachother, and eating the shrimp i got about 10 two to three inch needlenose out of the fry. i just gave them to friends and stuff. let me know if you have any questions.

it is also very hard to tell the difference between male and female needlenose gar. the only noticable difference i have is that one is darker than the other and has a larger body mass.

are you that they are true gar. cuz there isnt a needlenose gar. unless you are refering to a longnose. it sounds to me that you bred needle fish, not gar. they are 2 completely different species. BTW congrats on breeding them.

if there are no expert turtles, than there are no expert fish, sorry........
