Can someone tell me what this is?

Looks like plant matter to me. My crypts sometimes have similar looking tubular projections from the roots that break off easily and get smaller out of water.

LOL--->"His **** always looks like something out of Resident EVil," I agree(I kept Oscars too)...Looks like a piece of terd....I've seen things like this pop up in my predator tanks, especially in setups that contained snails....Now I am not saying it is the digestive aftermath of a snail, but it could be....If your fish get sick in the next week or so, bring it in and have it looked at in the lfs of your choice....Heck bring it in a Vet's office....Most likely it is a terd with a lot of vegetative matter in it, nothing else...

i would hate to see those search results

Looks like part of a catfish slimecoat thas been shed.
 Tell me more. I haven't heard of something like tis yet.!?

It does look like a tubular projection from a plant root, but I have no live plants in the tank.

Perhaps part of your fishes intestinal tract?

I know that all of my scaless catfish shed portions of thier slime coat at times. The RTC and the MRTC do it every now and then so I thaught this might similar as you mentioned having a catfish. Other than that I really don't have a clue. LOL
