Can Someone Tell me WTF these are?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes. The tall bodied, rounded bellies are the females. The males are much more streamlined.

7 seems to be a good number too. I also have seven adults.

Correct, fat bellies = female danios.

Fun fact... did you know that danios mate for life?

If you want to improve egg and fry survival you can put in some guppy grass a.k.a. naja grass, Java moss or Christmas moss, water sprite and / or cabomba. Those will give the eggs a place to fall where they won't be easily found and eaten. Fry will have a place to hide and forage for microorganisms growing on the plants.
Currently the Danios are in my 75 gal growout. Just rocks and hides for decor. But I would like to attempt a planted tank someday that would help to keep some danio fry going.

Don't the Danios eat the fry if you dont pull them? I did read that somewhere as well as the mating for life fun fact haha.

Yeah, they'll eat the fry when they're very small if they find them. Once they're too big to fit in anyone's mouth they're safe.

The 6 fry that somehow made it into the other tank are still kickin. Ive been grinding up flakes to feed them, but I have no idea if they are eating them or not. I'm fixing to do a water change on that tank so hopefully I don't suck them up and send em' packin.

My terrors spawned again so currently I have 20 or so 3-4" juvies in a 75. I have around 100 tiny (less than 1'') in a 40 breeder, and now the parents have another batch in their tank getting started. I'm going to see how this 2nd batch turns out, the first has a few that look really good in my opinion. If the Danios spawn again I will just have to see if any make it that I can pull out and try to spare.

I need more tanks haha. If I had money to burn my garage would get coverted to a fishroom for sure.

Yep, that seems to be how it goes. Crazy isn’t it?

Yeah it is.

I started with a 10gallon and a fancy goldfish. Then came a 29, 40, 75, 55, another 40, another 75, and a 120. haha

I currently only have 5 tanks going though. Two 40s, two 75s, and the 120.

I would love to have big tanks with big fish, but I tend to like a big tank with lots going on to observe. As soon as I can figure out another solution to house my Oscar, my 120 is getting transformed into a planted natural looking South American tank. Hopefully at least two cichlid species, a couple plecos, and some colorful schooling fish, maybe some other oddballs.
