Also, the Hagen glo fits two T5 Ho lights (39 watts each), do you guys thinks that enough light for a planted aquarium?
Depends on the plants you want to keep. On a 52 gallon with 2 39W HO T5 bulbs, you are going to want co2.
The retro-fit kits have a ballast that is external, the pre-built ones have an internal ballast.
If you keep your eye out, the Hagen fixtures now actually come with bulbs and a timer.
Build your own. Thats what I did and they hang from the ceiling. Google AH Supply, they have the best DIY lighting in my opinion. I've bought several kits from them and build my own enclosure. Love it!
My T5 HO light that I have for my 55 gallon has legs that suspend the light and mounts to the side of my tank and I can adjust according to length of the tank.

The hagen lights are expensive and don't come with bulbs. I would check of a Deep Blue Aquatics Solarmax HO. If its a 18 in tank I would go with two single bulb fixtures. If it's a 12" tank I would go with one two bulb fixture. Kenfish sells Deep Blue stuff as do most Private LFS. Royal Pet has a PDF of their catalog on their site.
