can these archer fish go in freshwater?

They are usually sold as babies, in fresh water.......but........
as they mature, and grow they prefer brackish water, and larger and larger tanks.

Pretty much all the archers I have come across in Thailand and Burma, only live in freshwater.

Cannot comment on the Australian ones.

I have fished the landlocked fresh water billabongs of North Queensland and the Northern Territory, and some of northern Australias non-tidal freshwater rivers. Archer fish are abundantly present in those fresh water environments.
I kept a group of archers in a 400gallon freshwater tank when I lived in Perth. No issues. Physiologically they can tolerate either environment but I would suggest finding out if they’re coming from a FW or brackish environment before purchasing.
As far as length of life is concerned I cannot comment.
The main difference between the Asian archers & Aussie ones is the Aussie ones love for Vegemite 🤗🥸

lol, my tank is a bit small i think being 75Lx75Wx60H
