I am aware that for life a front needs a bigger tank. I am hoping to get one in the near future. However, if I got the front and he was getting to big (before I could get a bigger tank) I would find him another home. This is a fish I have been looking for for a while and my LFS finally has some.

well, if you want someone to tell you that a front will work in your setup... Then sure it will work... of course you will have to get a new tank in the future keep an eye on tank mates...

SO... yea if you want one get it. I am not telling not to get one. Just that you will have to do more than your current setup. If problems do arise please ask for help. We will do our best...

Do you have any other suggestions? I don't want someone to tell me it will work if it really won't. I know long term it won't work. I just don't know all the fish out there...I have researched a lot but there are still fish you don't know about or think about. So any other suggestions are also welcome. I really do want a front but I am still in debate on getting one. So if you throw some other fish out there that you really like that would be really helpful. Thanks...

I don't think you would have a problem. My friend I got my Moba colony from has fronts in with his haps and peacocks(no females just males) and they have gotten along great for a long time. I would forget the females and you shouldn't have any issues. IMO

That is kinda what I was thinking. I may try it...minus the females, because I know if it doesn't work I have a LFS that will trade them with me.

Do the fronts hang primarily on the bottom?

I was also very interested in Comressiceps...Would these be a better choice?

I kept my fronts with hap/peacocks and comps/calvus for two years. After the peacocks were of adult size and fronts grew larger the two could not all fit well in a tank bigger than a 90. The numbers will really matter. The Fronts hid a lot. The peacocks and haps really punished the Fronts once they were larger. It is a really difficult mix.

I don't know...I am going to LFS tomorrow, I think I am going to look and see what they have. I may go and find something else I had been looking for.

dont get the frontosa if you think your fish will be aggressive, they really arent very tuff and mine are slow, i tried to add a small snowhite cichlid to the tank that was getting picked on from my other tank i figured the frontosa wouldnt bother him and since he was getting picked on he would keep to himself, my frontosas are about 3 times his size and a couple of seconds after i put him in the tank hes chasing my entire colony! exept my dominant male he fought good. but i would never add another fish in with my fronts again just a pleco maybe

Well, I think I am leaning towards getting some other type of Haps or Peacocks and just getting males. Any recommemdations? I want some that are on the mild side for Africans.

Bre,

I have never kept Fronts, so I can not give you advice on your specific question.

However, I have 5 Red Empress in a 300 gallon right now. At the moment there is no aggression problems. I have peacocks, some Mbuna, other haps, Zebra Obliquens (Victoria), Julies and Leleupi (Tang) all living together.

However, I would suggest putting more fish than 3 Red Empress and one more fish (be it a Front or whatever) in a 90 gallon. That way if you do have some aggression, it will be spread out.

Finally, I would like to mention that I just recalled that someone I know kept a Front, a Protemlus Simulus (similiar to a Red Empress), a Copad, two Peacocks, and a couple of other smaller Tangs all in a 75 gallon for several years, and I don't think he ever had a serious problem. Some chasing, but nothing serious.
