Can they live together??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well every oscar i have had was totally mellow, as long as no one bothered them they didnt bother anyone else (including tiger barbs that they could have easily eaten but were with since they were little so left them alone) and yeah you are def going to want ot move up to a 100g AT LEAST 6ft 125 would be good, the bgk will get to about the same size as the O so just them by themselves would be pushing it in a 60g once they are full grown, fullgrown O needs a 75g to be comfortable IMO but as long as you get the larger tank before they get bigger then a ebjd temperament wise should all get along fine

Yea, I found a place that sells tanks for really affordable prices. I am getting a rebate check from my school a couple months into next year and will be able to move up. I have them in a 60gal right now, but the biggest fish is my pleco and hes 9". my oscar is only 4" (maybe even a bit smaller) so I have some time to move them up.

I am looking at a 125gal tank that they are selling so i think that should be good, plus I will still have my 60 gal tank for any emergencies I might need to tend to. :)

The only problem I see in moving up is finding the space for the tank!! I will have to move my place around a bit, but will work it out. :)

lol yeah thats what i had to do when i brought my 120g tank from my parents place, prolly spent n hour moving couches and table around figuring out the best place to put it lol n yeah that should be fine then just make sure to keep up on your waterchanges to keep nitrates at 20 or below to make sure your O doesnt get HITH or anything like that, that they are prone to

yes I have been keeping a good eye on that! thanks again all for your answers and insight! I appreciate it and will post pics soon, especially if I get my EBJD this weekend. I hope I find one with a good personality!! :)

lol. well i am hoping I can find one that is not a wimp.. I want him to at least be able to stand up to the oscar if he starts anything. :) I look forward to having him and seeing the results.

UPDATE!! I went on my search for the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey and the only one I found that would be the right size to live with my oscar was NOT for sale!!! Oh well.. but I found a great pet place for fish if anyone from Washington state wants to do a road trip!! There is "Pet-Pourri" in Everett Wa, and "Bridges pets" in Snohomish.

"Pet-Pourri" is a weird place that looks like a small pet store with weird novelties for sale, but just walk to the back and it has a HUGE fish room!!! with many exotics that I was shocked to see!!! I plan on going back quite a bit to see what new exciting finds will be there... it was really cool!

And Bridges Pets was an amazing display. if anyone ever has the chance to go, it is well worth the trip there. I was amazed by the cleanliness and how professional this place was!! it was beautiful!!

I am still looking for the right EBJD so I will have to post an update when I finally find him!!

Watch out for those slime coat eaters in your tank! Plecos and Featherfin cats can do a lot of damage to your ghost and brown knife fish and to your friends bichir. Featherfins in particular will suck on the knife fish until they are too weak to fight them off. They'll eventually die from stress or infection. I know, a featherfin killed my BGK.

oh really? well I so far haven't had that problem, my BGK is pretty small so i don't think the feather fin can stick to him yet. And the pleco is four times bigger than him as well and shows no interest in the BKG. But now that I know that i will be sure to keep an eye on them more closely. If I have to separate them i am prepared to do so. Thanks for that information!! I appreciate it.. :)
