can this heal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It should heal fine if you have moved him out of harms way. I have had fish get their fins shredded this bad to have them grow back 100%. Just get it away from the RD and possibly add some salt and melafix.

No, I've never been able to get any cichlid out on a leash to walk immediately behind me or beside me. ;)

Oh, you meant "heal"? Yes, it should heal as long as nothing is chewed past the base of the fin or tail.

how long would it take? its allredy been like two months.

How bad was it to start with? I had a little female con get all her fins completly torn off and she healed perfectly within a few weeks. That is not an exageration either. The more he eats the faster he heals. Better the water faster he heals and salt and melafix should help too. Try feeding him some stuff like live fish and beefheart to give him a bit more protien and beef him up.

well he eats like a pig i feed him about 3-5 feeders every week and cichlid pellets also give him alot of crickets to he loves those and i give him 25-50% water change every three days and i do a complete tank clean every other week. and hes still barley heald up. the only thing that changed is his aggression.

Salt, melafix, and beefheart for protien. That should do the trick. Also what size tank do you have him in. If it is kinda small that could be why. My little con was about 1" and in a 29 gal all by herself when I got her to heal so quickly. Make sure the water is super clean. Like clean enough that you would drink outta it.

yeah thats probably why hes only in a ten and hes going to go in my 250 when i get it. but the water is super clear it looks like hes just floating in air.

The fish will heal just fine. If he lost any hard rays close to the base they are unlikely to grow back. He might have a permanent notch or two in his dorsal but, kept well, it won't cause any damage detrimental to the fish's health.

Depending on how deep the bites are in the dorsal it may not heal completely. I have a 5" female that had a big bite taken right out of the center of her dorsal back when...well, before I got her, back when she was probably 2". Although I treat her the very best, she has never healed completely. Doesn't affect her any, but she has a little piece still missing in the center of the dorsal.
