Can this stand hold 2 tanks??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, cause I don't normally see 15 gallons. But maybe cause I don't look for them either. So just front and back support are fine? There is no support on the sides either. Should I add some wood there??

Hi,

I bought this stand http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CYUUEI/ref=oss_product

Wondering if anyone owns this specific stand? Anyway, I was thinking of putting a 10 gallon beneath it. The thing is it doesn't mention this stand as being used as a duel stand. Under the stand I got plenty of room lengthwise for a 10 gallon. But the width is only about 10.5 inches and that about approx the width on the 10 gallon. So its either going to fit really snug (which I don't want). Or I will have to add a board to rest on the 2 beams and then lay the 10 gallon on that.

If I go this route, what do you recommend? If I were to add some plywood I do not know if it will have enough support. I think it would be a nice idea to add some cross support. Anyway what do you recommend?

I got the same stand from Pet co. an its a total piece of crap, I returned it. It wasnt stable and the pieces the tank rest on can be uneven if your not careful putting it together.

If you want a cheap stand that wont take up alot of space I would suggest a wrought iron stand. I own one for a 10g and 55g, they have work fine for over 15yrs.

This is the same one I own for a 10g. http://www.aquariumsdirect.com/stands-&-cabinets/rectangle/deluxewroughtironaquariumstand.cfm

Anyways, to answer your question a 2nd tank can be placed under it with no probelm. Might even help with the stability.

yes, front and back support only are fine. no need to add wood.

your tank would be like this person's 40g from a thread a few days ago:

and its a 40g. you should be fine.

All the metal stands that you can order online are going to be the knock-down type that you have to assemble yourself. Most of them just have the rail pieces sitting in slots or holes with no real positive method of attachment. I'm sure they will hold up a tank, otherwise they wouldn't get away with selling them, but they just seem sketchy to me. I would go to the LFS and get one of their metal stands that's welded together. Pretty much every LFS has them, and typically they use them right there in the store so you can see one holding up a tank with another tank underneath with no problems.

I was only able to located one 15 gallon and they want $27.99 for it! I may scope out craigslist but I don't know if I'll be lucky to find a 15 gallon.I know I could go with a 20 gallon high, but the extra depth is kind of a turn off.
