I think the stump will be behind the tank on the same level as the stand. But after what you said I think im just going to get a new powerhead/pump ill just use this one for makeing some current when ever I need it. I think im going to go the premade HOB overflow box. and ill buy some flexbul tubeing

I have filter pads so all I need is the powerhead/pump the hoses and the overflowbox right? also which would be a good powerhead to buy?

thanks delhezi b

first thing you need to buy is the overflow box. that will determine what size pump you need. i dont know what size boxes your LFS has availible, but youre going to want one that is rated between 300 and 500GPH.
then you need to buy a submersible pump (not powerhead) that is rated close to the same as the overflow.

if your sump is going to be on the stand at the same level of the tank, then youre only looking at around 2' of head. so when you look at the pumps, there will be a chart on the box of the GPH based on pump head. find one that will pump around the same amount as your overflow box @ 2' head.

I was just messing with you....:D

You will want the overflow to be more gallon per hour than the pump.

I dont think anyone else mentioned it but i have heard that media (bio balls and sponges) that have been used in the past and not cleaned 100% after use, the bacteria becomes poisonous to the fish. Like i said thats just what i heard so if someone can say its true you either need brand new media, or somehow clean the media you have which with the bio-balls could be hard.

I used the old media that came with my pre-fab sump and all I did was rinse it off. Not had any problems with it.
