Can to many water changes be bad?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wc's stress some of my fish out really bad ... so it can cause illness .. so depending on your water and your fish .. and you filtration .. it could be ..

if you where to list the information about your tank it would help people help you ..

but the biggest thing of all

ITS A WASTE OF WATER!!!!!!!!!!!

Say i changed the water 30-50% every morning would that be bad?
if the parameters on the tap are too different from the tank water, and it stresses the fish

NOPE it would be great for your fish mind you if you have fish that are easily stressed it may bother them but thats the only real downside i can think of for it

but what you do have to make sure is that if you havent done a water change in a while (month+) that you start by doing smaller water changes and working your way up over a week or 2 this is because the pH in an established tank drops slowly as a result of the nitrogen cycle and if you do a water change the sudden change in pH may shock or even kill your fish

but really unless you have an extremely overstocked tank or really sensitive fish (discus for example) it would be overkill and would just waste water

twice a week at 40% i recommend. too much water changes can remove the trace elements in the water that is already mature.
but, thats my personal opinion. and depends what fish your keeping.
if its GUPPIES then you can get away with changing the water once a month.

i would say anything more then 20% 2-3 times a week is a waste of water and a waste of time .. that has always worked for me ... my rays are happy and growing fast as are the rest of my fish ..

nice motoro stingers there. and i do a 30% water change on my ray tank and do a 60% on a sunday. these species seems to love big water changes and like you said . . . grows faster.

everybody has there own recomendations but remember it all depends on the bioload of your tank. some people have very high bioloads or inadequate filtration and need frequent large water changes(this scenario isnt a preferable one).

unless your tap water is competely void of minerals (which means theres no minerals in the tank water to begin with ) you cannot remove minerals from the tank via water changes only replenish them

Not necessary at all even doing that on juvie discus is going over the top imo,and you dont state what fish you keep, what size tank and how long its been running or your reason for doing this many wc,give us more info please.
