Can two Leiarius Pictus hang together

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Day two of the saga! Little guy has found a place to hide but not after a great deal of butt whipping. He looked pretty ragged with alot of fin and skin damage. It does seem like he is learning to avoid better, Im headed out of town till Monday night so if he makes it through the weekend he has a good shot at sticking around.

Been about two weeks so for the sake of learning I'm giving an update. Little guy has been subjected to on and off attacks at the hands of the larger dude. For a week he was looking good and healing than today I see that he is in bad shape with a mouth size wound and torn fins. So as my big L. Pictus bothers no other fish but continues to chase around the little guy constantly and the little guys only refuge is behind the filter Im going to have to separate the pond for a while and make the bold statement two L. Pictus living together are a bad idea. :-(

I've had bad expiriences keeping large Ls together, although I have never owned a L. pictus. I had a large 22" L. longibarbis, and a Marble x TSN hybrid that was 19". The hybrid pummled the 22" longibarbis to death one night. Tore most of the fins off. I have noticed that in large catfish biting of the cadual fin in territorial disputes occures quit often. Fish should be of similar size so that they can hold their own.

Thanks Necro. Im gonna separate them tomorrow. The weird thing is he doesnt bother the TSN which I had in there since he was 4 inches or the Lima who I put in at 5 inches so its kinda strange that he only picks on the same species.

Maybe if you try growing him out a bit first. Usually big cats come to a mutual agreement when they are the same size. I have two tiny bumble bee cats that fight everytime I put food in there it's hilarious though. I have yet to see them hurt each other, but it is kinda funny. Big cats can do some major damage to each other though.
