I have a 100g growout tank and introduced a trimac pair several months ago. Both were about 0.75 in big, but have grown tremendously over the past 9 months. The male is now about 10 in. I have an umbee in the tank that is a bit older.. about 2 years and hit a growth spurt and is now 11 in. The umbee is very aggressive and will harass my trimac pair. I plan to move these fish into a bigger tank, but can they co-exist. The umbee and male trimac are about the same size. The umbee is 11 in but the trimac actually is bulkier at 10 in. I'm thinking it's only a matter of time when the trimac gets older he will be able to hold his own because I've heard trimacs are also aggressive. Tell me your opinions. Maybe I should keep them separated, but I've always wanted to keep a community in a 200+ gallon tank if possible. Has anyone kept mature umbees and trimacs in the same tank?photo.JPGphoto2.jpgphoto3.jpgphoto4.jpg

Sorry for the poor pic quality. Iphone pics.

It could work for a little while, however the umbee will double the size of the trimac.... Maybe if they were put into the 200g now and added some smaller dithers to may work.

Lol wow!!!! Seriously? Or are you trolling? That 100 g is barely big enough just for the trimac pair. And you have all sorts of large predatory cichlids in there. There are plenty of threads that discuss what happens in overstocking, combining aggressive fish, combining large aggressive fish, etc all you have to do is use the search engine. And NO!!! None of the fish will work together successfully in a community unless you have over 1000g tank. Nice looking fish though and good luck. After seeing those pics, it looks like that tank is bigger than a 100??

IMO, if it works for you roll with it. Some people don't realize that every fish is different no matter how bad there reputations may be.

That is true that every fish is different but it won't change the fact that the 100g tank is far too small for those fish!!!

I do have to agree with this, although even though the tank is to small, and is overstocked, all of the fish seam to be in readily good health, therefor if OP follows through with his plans to upgrade to a 200+ gallon tank, he can go from there as for aggression issues that the may or may not behold.

I do not plan to keep them in this tank. Like I mentioned... this is a growout tank and all of the fish in here started at 1.5 inches or smaller. They have grown very fast and I do have 2 other tanks. One a 75G and a 125G. I do plan on getting a 200+ gallon. The aggression issue just started with the umbee maturing so that is why I am on this forum to ask for advice. I am wondering if the umbee will continue to get more aggressive or my trimac will hold his own if they are placed in a larger tank. If need be I will of course separate them and put them in different tanks. There is no physical damage as of yet, but am aware this could happen. Just seeking opinions from experts if it is possible to keep these fish together in a community setting in a 200+ gallon tank. Thanks for all the replies!
