That's true. I personally am not even a fan of cichlids this size being kept in a 4' tank. But at least he's not planning on putting three of them in a 75 gallon.

Agree. That's why i recommended a regani.Choosing a smaller species would have been the best option.

Is yours female?a male should reach 12 inch. I had a pair a few years back and the male was well over 10inches and still growing.The female was around 5 maybe 6inch.
They should clear 12 inch quite comfortably.They are hard to sex fin shape and colour are virtually the same.Judging by shape and color I'm leaning towards male
