Can We cut Motoro Ray stinger off?

I am a noob with Motoro, i was wondering if it possible to cut off the stinger from the motoro?

When i was at the city aquarium, all their rays stings are cut off at the petting area. So, is it possible or would it killed them?
 
I have no experience keeping rays, but even if u could do it without much risk i would say no unless u were some sort of fish surgeon

me either and it's probally more dangerous cutting it off then leaving it on unless ur gonna turn your tank into a petting zooo
 
it can be done, but why would you want to?...i can cut a finger off and live, but why?
 
You can cut them but they will grow back. I have trimmed them for shipping. If you are keeping them in your tank then it is best to leave them alone as it is stressfull to them. I use nail clippers that you buy for cats and dogs.
 
The name (Petting Area) tells it all. They do it for the sole purpose of no one getting
stung when petting the rays. I wouldn't mess with it per what Fishdog said, it is to stressful
for them. Besides that is part of the draw of keeping rays, just like keeping
ATF or Armatus cause of their teeth.:D (For some)
 
why do you wanna cut it off ??? maybe i didnt catch somthing ???
 
Display animals headed for a "touch-tank" or "petting-area" usually have their barbs removed while under sedation and receive intramuscular injections of anti-biotics by a qualified practitioner. I would agree that some of the thrill of ray keeping is knowing that I must respect my rays at all times. One slip up at it could be costly to myself and the animal.

It is also a source of fascination when they shed their barbs. You can have quite a collection after a few years.

Why do you want to cut the poor things stinger off? I think its kinda cruel. It can be done, just like you can de claw a cat. Why do you want there stingers off anyways?? you should not be touching them. And if you are touching them, then they should sting you ;)
