have you been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium? they have many leopards and if you have been there you have seen how big they are and how much room they use constantly swimming.

it is illegal to transport live fish from where you caught them.

Ch. 1: General Provisions and Definitions

1.63. MOvEmENt OF LivE FiSh.
Except as provided in Sections 4.00 through 4.30 and 230,

live fin fish may not be transported alive from the water where taken.

then how do people sell them ect? if you get them over 3' and take them home i doubt fish and game will come to your house.... i doubt even more that they question you if thet are over 3'.

People with special permits who are heavily regulated by the DFG are allowed to collect specific numbers of fish and sell them where it is legal.

Think about like this....If everyone took live fish and transported them to wherever they liked without specific regulations against it then we would have many more problems with invasive species destroying native ecosystems.

Also, yes the DFG will question you about the keeping of live specimens, they will come to your house, they will take you to jail, and they will fine you for the unlawful keeping of fish. So posting on forums that you are contimplating it is a bad idea.

Wasnt there a guy who caught one but it had pups or eggs or something so he kept them alive.

As stated above you can not catch and keep a leopard in Cali that is under 36". And even if it is above the size limit you can't transport it alive. Even a smooth hound gets to big for the home aquarium and I would never even stick 1 into a 1K gallon tank. My son caught 1 last weekend and as you can see they just get too big for home tanks. The fish was at least 30"

Why would you even think about keeping a leopard shark for a home aquarium? I used to catch lots of them in the SF bay, near the old Candlestick park. They belong back in the ocean, to ensure future generations of these beautiful fish. I was watching some show last time, forgot the name of it, where some prick wanna-be pastor was catching loads of these sharks, and selling them to LFS across the country. Well, he made such big impact on the bay's population of leopards, that they were afraid that he really depleted some of the population. Fish and Wildlife got involved and arrested him, thank god. They were able to release what they could find. I hope that pastor rots in hell for what he did. He did everything in god's name too, saying it was "the will of god."
