i have some large blue phantoms and what i think is a large male green phantom. Is there any way it would be possible to cross breed these plecos? i also have some other large 200's. i have bred bristle nose plecos without much problem, and i wanted to go for another species. but i think a cros would be unique.. opinions on whether this is possible?

It is likely possible to cross breed these as they are both Hemiancistrus (L200 H. subviridis, L128 only H. sp.). There is a question whether these are the same species or different ("Ranges in colouration from blueish green to yellowish green (which correlates to how far south on the Rio Orinoco the fish was collected). Head and body spots are variable within these colour forms. May be the same species as L128." www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=223). There also seems to be a possible range overlap where there may be natural hybrids. But if you are interested in selling any offspring in the future, you probably would get more money for a "pure" L128 rather than a hybrid.

Here's is an article from PC on breeding L128 (in english): www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/shanesworld.php?article_id=454&title=Breeding+L128

Yes there is enough mutant fish out there!

Im not sure if its possible, I Have my couple 128 and 5 l200 in same tank and so far nothing.

If your ever successful please show some pics!

I know i would probably get more for a pure fish, but i thought it would be an interesting experiment. and i dont have a large male L128. so i would be breeding pure l200's. Ill give it a shot and let you guys know! i find it very easy to get bristlenose to breed if you have just the right shape cave/hideout for them to do their action. I'm thinking that might be the case with any pleco but i guess il just have to try it and find out!

i dont think you would be "muddying the waters" so to speak.
Both the L128 and L200 are from the same river, the blue coming from the cooler waters of the top of the river, the green from the warmer waters at the bottom.
As these fish are collected from different areas of the river, you find some of the blue phantoms show a real bright blue, while others show a more greeny blue, and the green phantoms go from bluey green to almost a bright yellow colour.
In theory, these are the exact same fish living under slightly different conditions, i think breeding a blue with a green will simply provide you with young that you yourself would have to call either L200 or L128 depending on their colour, ultimately each being the same fish as the other

If they are the same fish why do they have different L#s and scientific names?
My previous blue phantoms looked very green almost bright yellow ha
but i noticed the blue phantoms have spots going all the way their bodies to their back fin where as the greens have spots till the back of the dorsal.

L-numbers are just a temporary ID. See the sticky on L numbers: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?59585-Loricariidae-Species-Identification

The scientific name for L128 is "sp." which means that it hasn't been formally/scientifically described yet to the species level. Once it has, it may be the same as L200/subviridis or maybe not; maybe L128 and L200 will be the same species, but different subspecies. It'll probably depend if the taxonimists publishing the scientific description is a "lumper" or "splitter."

I'm pretty sure you can. I don't remember where I read it but, the offspring will just be either blue or green, no tie-die plecos.
