Can you cure HITH

oscars in the early 90's and late 80's were stronger than they are now. back then it was rare for an oscar to ger hith. . .even my aunty had hers and they were raised from 2'' to 14'' in just a 3foot tank with prehistoric 'air powered under gravel filtration' and none showed any health problems. . that leads me to think that the species has been over bred for the aquatic hobby and their genes have weakened, thats why its so common to hear oscars with hith these days.

hmm well my oscars are in a 45g atm until i can build my 190g when it warms up

when my oscars had HITH.. all i've done was 100% water parameter check and methaleyne blue.. water was 100%clean all the time and i manage to save 'em

Yeah i dont know what else i can do,water parameters are Ok . Ph 6.8, No nitirites,no ammonia, nitrates a little high at about 40-50

My 13 inch 8 year old oscar just got HITH i have used about 6 bottles of the "JUNGLE" brand treatment. It has not got better but it has kept it from getting worst. But i didnt know HITH was contagious

As far as i understand it isnt contagious. I belive it is suposedly caused by poor water conditions? So in my opinion if one oscar has contracted it in that tank most likely they all have(oscars). I have personaly never seen it in any other fish besides oscars, yet im sure it has an effect on other species.

I would try the methods recomended from these guys that have previously posted because the method i used did not work. In addition ive used the jungle brand ICH treatment with no luck, not to say its a bad product but it hasnt worked for me.

my suggestion would be to keep the water conditions pristine and not worry too much about the meds (at this point); I believe you can arrest any further problems and the fish may even be completely healthy, but the scarring from the HITH will largely remain . . .
