I sure hope your kids don't have oversized ears or a big nose or something.

@neverrain....dont do it...mostly they grow back deformed...and its stupid

tbh if u prepared 2 put ur fish through pain and risk infection 4 1 barbel i think need 2 stop fish keeping not hurting him...

ya I would not do it, and to be Honest I have thought about it too. And thanks for posting your question and not just going out and trying something new on your fish, very good Source of information you have here and your using it.

But I think that if you keep the Aro long enough he will damage them again anyway, and maybe next time they grown back a little better. Let nature take its course.

I would say that mutilating an animal to make it look the way you want it to is a bad idea.

My big Silver jammed his barbels into the side of the tank when my old roomate accidently spooked him.

They were bleeding and one was almost torn loose, it was just hanging by a little skin...

If I thought I could have caught him without stressing him further, I would have trimmed it off.

As it was, I didn't trim him up and the barbel eventually healed and grew back fine.

I just made sure the water was perfect and did my W/C's and used a bit of salt...

pricking the bases would help growth.
