I traded two in back in the 90's that were both 10 inches.

I could be sticking my foot even deeper into my mouth here, but let me clarify what I was thinking by “not that big”...
I assumed they top out around 6-8” since I’ve never had any experience with any on the larger end.
That being said, I wouldn’t call 10” HUGE but I suppose it would be pretty huge in a community tank. But nowhere near the size plecos can get which people often purchase as “algae cleaners”
In a tank with larger predatory fish (arowana, clown knife, pbass, datnoid etc), they’re a little on the smaller side. Small enough to get eaten if you don’t get lucky enough to have one full grown.

I don't know how to post my own new material....any help....newb!

Go to any sub-forum (e.g. General Aquaria Discussion) and you'll see a box that says "Post a new Thread" in the upper right corner. Click on that, make a title and write your content. If you want to attach some photos click the "Upload a File" box at the bottom of the content box. Then click "Post Reply", you're done.

I can say with complete confidence that everyone is right so far. Definitely a Chinese algae eater. Effective little algae cleaner but some say they can get aggressive, sucking on and chasing other fish. They don’t grow too big otherwise I’d keep them in my larger tank again.
Is that aggresion or lack of food?? Ive seen in sailfin/common plecos a simular thing when they run out of algae to eat or know there isnt enough to fill their tummy so they start sucking off slime coats.

I’ve never had a problem with aggression from any algae eating fish. I keep plecos with silver dollars and bichirs, and I’ve kept CAE with other small fish. Never seen either of them sucking on any fish. I do supplement veggies though.
But I’ve heard complaints that they suck on other fish or chase them around.
