Actually, the Peacock Bass that were originally let lose intentionally were meant to breed and the babies were supposed to be good food for the large mouth bass that are native here. Florida is the #1 State for very fast growing large mouth bass. Fishing is a major economic force here. I am not saying that the Peacock Bass were let lose legally, but the Bass Fishing folks did and have admitted in the past to letting lose bucket loads of juvi' Peacock Bass just to supplement the diet of trophy fish. AND, it has worked exactly as planned. Peacock Bass is a large percentage of the diet of local bass. Bluegill and Gambusia being the primary species of their diet.
