Can you ID this Pleco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
great looking pleco.. great pattern...lucky you

Nope its P. Ambrosettii. P. disjunctivus doesnt have the same pattern and doesnt have similar markings on the head.

I read the p. ambrosetti has 10 rays on his sailfin vs the usual 8.....our guy does have 10. I'll try to get some pics next time his fin is up.

All pterygoplichthys will have more than 8 dorsal rays.

Okays, here's some more pics, seeing as how we seem to have some dissenting opinions even amongst the pros here :)

as you can see, leviathanlady's plec has spots on its head. not a reticulated pattern. in these pics, P. ambrosettii has spots on its head and P. disjunctivus has a reticulated pattern.
the same goes for the spiny rays of all of leviathanlady's plec's spiny fin rays. it has spots, not reticulated pattern.
so, leviathanlady's plec is Pterygoplichthys ambrosettii, the snow king pleco.

The fish is still immature. Will probably have to wait a bit to be sure, but I'd go with disjunctivus. I think the reticulated head pattern will become more pronounced.

Note spots on the leading edge of the pectoral fin of ambrosettii, and banded on disjunctivus. Your fish is banded.
