I purchased this little monster a while ago and tomorrow he will arrive to me. I don't know if he is a Midas, Red Devil, Midevil or Flower Horn. Hope the pictures helps.

Unfortunately it's pretty much impossible to tell between a Midas and RD at that size. The only way to tell is to wait for it to get bigger. Red Devil will retain that dark orange color where as the Midas will turn white. Sadly these fish have been interbred so much that it has caused them to look so much alike. Real Red Devil Cichlids are actually red (e.g. ones in the wild).

Midas or Red Devil not important for me, unless it comes out to be a FH. The eyes are red thats why i don't know if it is a Flowerhorn or not. I don't want FH in my tank.

h20cyclone you are right, in Turkey it is impossible to find a pure Midas or Red Devil. They are all interbred and now a days they are getting bred with FH's.

Other then there being a lot of them crossed this statement is completely false. The majority of the wild population are barred. Colored one can come in anything from solid red to almost solid white for both red devils and midas.

OP, your fish is most likely a cross and could have several different amphilophus bloodlines in it. Unless it came from a reputable breeder/seller there is no way to know for sure what it is. It will be a nice looking fish eitherway.

jgentry thanks for your comment. I am very sure of the mixed bloodlines of this fish, but at least we can call him an amphilophus rather than a FH right?

dont most if not all young pure midas start of barred then turn their adult colour between 3 and 6 or so inches? thats what i came to understand when i researched it, i have a 4 inch midas that has barres but seems to be turning/changing....
unless im completely wrong and my sources are rubbish?

*not the one in my avatar he's a 9inch red head barred.

i think your looks more midas than rd personally really nice fish... like the others wrote though unless its a red head barred its more than likely a midevil.

could be a midevil
