dont most if not all young pure midas start of barred then turn their adult colour between 3 and 6 or so inches? thats what i came to understand when i researched it, i have a 4 inch midas that has barres but seems to be turning/changing....
unless im completely wrong and my sources are rubbish?

Yes, that is true of pretty much most RD and midas in captivity.....But my understanding is that in the wild (eg. lake Nicaragua) that many RD and midas never do change from a barred pattern, and when a transition to orange, yellow, white or red occurs it is at a much larger size and older age.

Other then there being a lot of them crossed this statement is completely false. The majority of the wild population are barred. Colored one can come in anything from solid red to almost solid white for both red devils and midas.

OP, your fish is most likely a cross and could have several different amphilophus bloodlines in it. Unless it came from a reputable breeder/seller there is no way to know for sure what it is. It will be a nice looking fish eitherway.
Yeah I was going off of what I had heard from others. Which you always got to take for a grain of salt sometimes. Nice to learn something new on here each day. Do wish that these fish weren't so interbred though.

Great looking fish, and nothing about it says flowerhorn. Red eyes are also a normal trait in citrinellus, so don't let that bother you.

you can tell by the body and mouth structure of the fish. who on earth came up with "red devils are red, and midas are white" i´ve seen both red devils and midas´s in all kinds of colours and patterns, pure and impure.

Yeah, well Red Texas are not Red neither.

And about your fish, get a frontal head pic so we can see the shape of the mouth, wether or not is is U shaped or V shaped.

Thanks for the comments, they made me relax about it. Midas or Red devil or Midevil doesn't matter for me.

oscaroo He is going to live in a 138 gallon tank with the other tankmates Festaes, synspillums, Gold Morph Managuensis, Cuban and a Salvini.

Calihawk the photos i shared at 1st page can help i think. It is hard to catch a photo of him in the tank the way you want.

One cannot simply use the mouth shape, or body structure, to determine the difference between a citrinellus and a labiatus.

agorkemt .......... without some kind of provenance for this fish you really have no choice but to consider it a midevil. IMO the only way that becomes a negative is if you were purchasing the fish for a breeding program. Otherwise, just enjoy the fish, it looks like a nice specimen.
