Can you keep a female convict in a community tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have my female marbled convict in my 75 gallon with buenos airies, black phantoms and blood parrots and she doesn't bother them. If anything my bp's chase her and my tiger botia chases all lol.

Thanks, From the looks of your comment I'm leaning more to the way of buying a single female convict. Do ANY of you guys want to know my desired list?

Also, Can you keep live plants with a female con?

it could work. i got 3 full grown convcit in a 30 tall with community fish. i got 3 swordtails(1male 2females, top swimmers) 3 bleeding heart tetras (mid swimmers) 3 convicts and 3 emerald cory catfish. i havent gotten any pics yet my camera isnt working. everything is fine no agression over the levels. the convicts pretty much stay at the bottom and fight with each other instead of bothering the other fish.

What gender are the cons? That seems like too many conspecifics confined in a small space..if at some point they pair off it can be disastrous

Males . I thought the same thing but it seemed to work fine. I honestly thought the cons would have killed them by now.

Thanks, I'm near definit going to get a male con since they are nicer looking. I'll just tell you guys what my desired list is going to be for my 70g

12-15 Red phantom tetras
2 German rams
5 Clown loaches
3 Angel fish
8 Hatchet fish
1 Gold nugget pleco
And of course, The convict

Probably can work but don't be too surprised if later on you have dead fish or torn fins etc

Question is why it has to be a convict? why risk all your other fish for the rats of the cichlid world?

Hey to each its own.

One more thing...be sure to add the convict last...some of the fish on the list won't survive the first five minutes in the tank if an established convict decides to have some fun with the new comers.
