can you keep needle fish and rocket gar together

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It may or may not work out. Please understand that the needlefish will do better in a light brackish setup S.G. 1.003 - 1.005 than it would in pure freshwater. The rocket gar will do better in pure freshwater. I understand that while preferring freshwater the rocket gar can handle light salt content.

If I were to try the combo. I would start at a S.G. between 1.002 & 1.003 and ONLY USE MARINE SALT!

scientific names would be most helpful.. as these common names describe a few different fish.

Ok needlefish and freshwater barracuda And how much salt should I put in to make salinity

Try to start out on the extreme low end (sub-brackish) near the 1.002 S.G. mark. You would need a hydrometer to be accurate, but you can use a 1 Tablespoon (not teaspoon) of marine salt per gallon of water ratio simply and be in the ballpark,

Look closely for heavy/ stressed breathing from the Huerjta Rocket gar though. It could possibly have a negative reaction to the salt content.

A great alternative to the tankmate for the needlefish would be a pike minnow (Belonsox)
