I have a Vieja Ufermanni in a 180 with some Silver Dollars. Can I put a different type of Vieja Male in with her? she is three years old, 8 or 9 inches and pretty aggressive.

Thanks!

Mixing Vieja/Paratheraps can get pretty ugly. If you do try it make sure you have some way to split them up in case things go bad.

What could I put with her?

I want a single large colorful male (no breeding).

Thanks!

I think a Synspilum would be great, they get huge and I think they are the most colorful of all Viejas. But usually they are not as aggressive as others Viejas, although they are pretty good at defending themselves.

I have several species of veija's and parathreraps in the same tank with no problem. I got a 9" Bifasiatus, 7" argentea, two 7" fenestratus, and a 6" synspillum. And no problems with any of them

Having several may help to diffuse the aggression. It's usually harder to keep just two....

Good to know it can be done!

If I get two more Vieja should they be different species?

I used to have a fenestratus and he was pretty mellow.
The Synspilum looks interesting (body shape).
And the Bifasiatus looks nice.

Any aggression issues with these three?

Thanks!
