can you sex festae @ under 10cms?

Nice Festae Mbuna but sometimes Festae are still a dull brownish color at that size. I bought my high quality Festae from Rapps a couple of years ago and they were easy to sex at 2"...these are obviously females facing off. On the flipside, I was at a good lfs, The Fish Gallery, not too long ago and they had 3-4" F0's that were extremely dull colored and I couldn't sex them.
