unless you raise them
any commercialy bought feeders usually rosie reds/tuffies (the albino form of fat head minnows),
guppies, bait minnows etc.need to be quarantined before feeding them to your fish for several reasons.
reason 1 They are kept in horrible conditions
reason 2 They are often diseased
reason 3 They often are carriers of parasites
During quarantine dispose of the obviously sick or diseased. The remaining ones feed quality
foods a healthy feeder is of course better for your fish.
Bingo!! This is why,if i feed live at all it's homemade baby convicts.

i grow guppies outside in a 300g pond. get a 100+gal container and breed them.

Nowadays i avoid feeders all together i am better off buying massivore or using my homeade stuff. I rather not take the chance.

I rarely use feeders anymore, only for a treat. And then I rarely use goldfish or fatheads, I prefer Cons or what ever cichlid juvs we have in stock.

Lolz im with every1 else on this one- quarantine feeders. major parasite risk.
Or, get a 10G, and stock it with a load of male and female guppies and let them breed until you have all the feeders you need!

Anytime you introduce a new fish (feeder or not) you risk introducing disease.

What about people with large obligate piscevours?

Id have to have HUGE contatiners to QT enough feeders that my armatus could eat in a 2-3 weeks time and he is only 6-7"!

Baisically it is impossible in my situation to QT feeders for 2-3 weeks before feeding. Id have to have several different tanks just for QTing feeders and I dont think ANYONE does that. I just pick out the best and healthiest feeders I can.
