Can you use drift wood you find yourself

Last year I found an awesome piece that I wanted for my fish tank.
I took it home and "tub" for it to soak in for several days. I used some rubbermaid tubs I had laying around, a plastic tarp, and some concrete blocks to hold everything together. I sprayed off the piece really well inside and out. Then I soaked it for a day in tap water, rinsed it off and soaked another day, rinsed off and soaked for the last day. I kept it in my tank for about 9 months and eventually decided to take it out so my fish had more room to swim around. Not its dried out and sits on the canopy of my 150g. Looks cool!

These are pics of my tank before I had any of the big fish and aquascaping that I have now.

Hey, thanks for all the good help. When I find the right piece, I'll definitely post some pics of it. I think I'm going to look for a big stump. My tank is 4' long and 27" high. I want a piece with branches sticking all over the place that will fill most of the tank.

oscar lover. that tarp set up was ingenious. I never would have thought of doing that. Thanks for the tip.
