Can you use nylons to hold carbon in a canister filter?

It becomes toxic????
well i change it out every month so perhaps thats why it hasnt been a problem but i never heard its toxic before!
But im using the carbon because I just put two new pieces of african root wood in the tank and they are still leaching tannins plus i will be adding more wood in the coming weeks so for now carbon is a good thing!

Very understandable. I would remove that carbon every 2 weeks though , as it will go bad after a week of soaking up tannin , then your missing an extra 3 weeks you could be removing more. I am doing the same right now
