Could we use culls, with the mindset that, they will most likely not make it?

Potentially yes... As long as the fish is within the correct size it should not be a problem. In some cases and with some species however it could backfire and you could end up with the Predator becoming the prey.

There are several "Candiru" sp. that are occasionally imported under a variety of names. The main drawback of these species is that they do not travel well. I have tried twice to bring some Candiru back from Peru but they never seem to make it past the importer.

I would be interested in someone managed to get a healthy batch to the states.

I also plan on going back to Peru in 2009 and trying to get Candiru again as well.

"Candiru" is a catch all for any Trichomycterid or Cetopisd in many cases. In the strict definition that I prefer to use it applies only to Vandelline Trichomycterids. (I.E. Vandellia cirrhosa your common Peru species)

They definitely do not travel well as they are a pelagic fish and are very sensitive to oxygen depletion and ammonia levels. Key to shipping and transporting is low numbers in big bags and do not ship or transport within 24 hours of feeding.. Quicker you can get them where they need to go the better.. cost is astronomical but it is the only good way to ship these.
