I was browsing at a small LFS today when in a very small marine tank I saw a fish that was very nice,And this was the Candy Pipefish.I am looking for Tank Size,Tank Mates,Size,Care Difficulty.I wanted to get one but I don't have a marine set-up but I am strongly considering getting one.

pipefish as usually considered very very hard to keep...I don't have any first hand experience with them but, my buddies have told me that

Thanks. It is just that this 1 species is VERY eye catching and I cant find info on it.

they arent neccasarly difficult, certain conditions just have to be met. Water paramaters need to be kept very good. Ammonia-0 Nitrite-0 Nitrate- 10 or less.

Would have to have a established tank up with very passive tankmates.

See if its eating frozen mysis. Might only eat live bbs.

ya, you also don't want any stinging corals, any fish that is very passive have a slow eater

Ok thanks. In a few years i'm going to try my hand a FW pipes then maybe try a few SW fish then move up to some harder to keep ones like pipes, seahorses ect ect.

My father keeps one of these pipefish in with seahorses.

I don't know what kind the candy pipe was, but pipes can go with seahorses. Some males are agressive towards other males of the same species, but get along fine with seahorses. Just make sure they're eating frozen mysis. As far as other tankmates, it's not a good idea to keep fish with these because the fish get all the food and can harass the pipes/seahorses.

a google search didn't turn anything up for "candy pipefish" do you know the scientific name?

basically the same for any pipefish or seahorse, no rough aggressive fish, good water quality, make sure they feed ok before buying..

the only thing about pipefish is that they have a few certain diseases that are specific to them, mostly dealing with the mouth, if you have a fat specimin this is generally nothing to worry about, i don't happen to know anything about it other than i think it's called degenerative snout disease..
