Canister 4 me

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you still want to get a canister i would go with 1 of the fluval brand series probably at least the 4 series rated up to 100 g tanks in case you want to upgrade and because of alot of the people on here who say so many good things bout fluvals

i dont think filters like that work very well. they work fine with clean fish like discus and such but you have p's. those arent gonna really do anything. if you want cheap and effective, go cannister but make SURE, you add old filter media in it so it cycles faster. if you dont care about spending money then do a sump or even a diatom filter.
thats the thing in his other post he said he wasnt trying to spend too much i love my hangons though ive always used them they keep my 55 growout crystal clear i have 1 whisper forgot the model name and its stocking is cichlids with weekly biweekly water changes my water sttays crystal clear

and tell you the truth at this point since you already have 1 filter you cant really go wrong the more the better if you think you will upgrade def a good canister

right, he wants cheap. i have had my oddyssea for 5 months and only cleaned it twice. i do a water change every 2 weeks. i throw over 100 feeders in a week. water is crystel clear, and nitrates and ph and all that good stuff is right were it should be

am just saying hob because their prices range from a 100 to 400 for decent gph rate

ya i understand. if he keeps his 1 penguin, then gets the canister, the canister will act as a filter but also a water polisher. i guess i really just dont believe in HOB filters. plus you can have the inlet and outlet on seperate sides of the tank instead of right next to eachother, and the spray bar adds a bit of a current to

ill go with a canister, ok so i have some old filters in my current filter my 250 i can put in the canister, will the canister take regular cartridges or how will that work, so if i get that odysee is that a good rated canister... like not a waste of money? and how often do you have to clean canisters and are they easy to setup.

also will the penguin be to much filtration with the canister?

the canister comes with a blue filter media in 2 or 3 of the chambers. replace the blue with white media. and the carbon it comes with is garbage. i put cascade or aqua clear carbon bags in mine. other than that your fine. they are also very quiet. i cant even hear mine at night

use your old filter media in 1 of the chambers. leave the black foam peice to. and if you have the ceramic rings in your old filter, add those in with the new ones
