canister devoted to carbon !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

From the pix it does not look like a bacterial bloom.

Try and feed less, in any case.

In your case i would try carbon, in a solo cannister. Give it ten to fifteen days and throw the carbon away.

well i feed twice a day and everythign gets ate within less then 2 mins usually ... and would it be alright to have more purigen then actually needed then it wont get exhuasted as fast as a small amount ? or am i wrong on that .... like if i hada extra canister if i find a cheap used one and used 1litre of purigen and some fine filter sponges in the canister ... or maybe would a HOB like a ac110 with a huge bag of purigen work ?

Mu biig monster dispatxh their food in 30 seconds. And i feed every other day...

They do not need that amount of food.

I think carbon is less expensive than purigen. Get a solo second hand cannister full with carbon and and pads and plug it in.

For two weeks max. You shoudl see the difference soon.

mmy guys are still juvi's in the tank, talking to dad this morning and he says he has a old HOB filter he used on a 150g back in the day said i could try it... so maybe i'll try my big bag of carbon i have here in it and see what happens and if it works i may try some purigen when i have osme extra cash and see how well it works ...but it says with purigen that 1 litre treats 1000gallons would it last much long if i used the entire litre i bought ? like it wouldnt get exhuasted as fast if i used more then needed to treat the tank i have it in right ?

I would say , not my area, that it exhausts equally.

Divide it in two separate packs, maybe?

makes sense, i could always divide it into 4's 250ml and have 4 seperate bags in the filter say in a xp3 one tray with spponges and the other 2 trays with 2 bags or purigen each so 500ml each tray...or even could just do 2 bags of 250ml one bag per tray as that would treat 500gallons of water between 2 bags of 250ml, maybe that would be better then ? of coarse if the carbon works to clear my water up

This is nothing more than the normal look of aquarium water after a week of feeding, peeing and craping of fish in a closed system. What are you trying to acomplish? There is no replacing twice a weekly water changes unless you do thrice weekly water changes. IMO carbon isn't necessary and neither is any other resin, your water looks fine. The best thing you can do to keep your water pristeen is increase the number of water changes per week. Do three 25% changes and your water look crystal clear 24/7 and your fish will love it.

i do weekly water changes on the weekends as thats when im home from work usually, i typically do about 80% .... and im trying to acomplish having crystal clear water like i had before is all .. and i had a bigger bio load before as well and it stayed crystal clear for a loooong time

IDK what to say your tank has the sepia type look of a well aged and established tank. I don't know what it looked like before but it looks like what it should look like to me after a week. I have no further advise to give you other than to stop messing with it. GL
