so what do you guys use in your filters?

stock media or custom? detail which one man!!!

i have:

1 eheim 2250
use eheim and fluval rings, then fluval bio max and natural sponges, finally eheim fix (the green easter basket looking stuff).

share your setups!!!!

Both stock and my own. My Rena Filstar xp4 came with Bio-stars, Sponges, Bags, Floss, and so on, but it had a lot of room leftover when all the came-with's were added. I added Bio-Balls and Lava Rock. 2 Months of Oscars and the water is clean enough to drink. I can't even say that about my Molly tank!

eheim sub. PRO. in both my eheim 2028 and my two ac110

In my fx5 I use the white filter pads (don't remember what they're called), bio-max, carbon, and the rings (don't remember what they were called either). In my xp4, I use everything it came with (all of the basic mech., bio., and chem. media). Btw, everyone seems to absolutely love their fx5's, but I actually like the xp4 better, it is much easier to do maintenance on and has more media baskets, it's just too bad Rena doesn't make any filters with a decent flow rate :(.

Well thats not very smart. Thats like wasting canister filters...
I agree, filtration is pretty much useless if there isn't at least some bio. media, otherwise you may as well just be constantly moving all the poop from one corner of the tank to the other.

i was told that pot scrubbers were good bio media. so thats what i used.

In wet dry applications. Submerged, they are almost useless.

Plastic straws cut up would be 10x as efficient.

Ceramic media, and submerged canister media is what you need.

i use mostly, Fluval BioMax and Eheim Substrat Pro, as of late i just started using Seachem pond Matrix in my newer set ups. if i had a choice i would use the Pond Matrix above all else.
